  • TroopsDirect Announces Regional Television Campaigns
    April 28th, 2016

    By TroopsDirect

In an effort to increase awareness about the supply shortages our troops can face, we are rolling out a hard hitting & matter of fact television campaign starting in a few select regions.  In coming weeks and months we will increase the reach and messages.  With public attention turned towards veterans issues and the wounded, this campaign addresses the fact that about 150,000 Americans are still deployed to hazardous regions or staging areas around the globe and that needs for critical items exists – at large levels.

  • Executive Director Aaron Negherbon visits Washington, D.C.
    March 1st, 2016

    By TroopsDirect

Last week, TroopsDirect Founder and Executive Director Aaron Negherbon attended a Congressional hearing in Washington, D.C. to address supply deficiencies faced by our troops. “We were very encouraged not only by the interest of the Congressional attendees in what we do but in their desire to address the troop supply deficiencies immediately. This meeting wasn’t about determining blame. It was about looking for solutions.”

    Aaron-1

    Aaron-2

Negherbon went on to say, “TroopsDirect helps to fill the gap but all agreed that the issue requires more than a band aid. With the continued support of those in Congress, particularly Representative Duncan Hunter (R-CA 50th District) who has been championing this issue, we’re hopeful to bring more in to the fold to help insure our forward-deployed troops have everything they need to do their jobs and come home safely. It’s too important an issue to not take action.”

Thank you to Representative Hunter for his unwavering support of our military heroes, their families, and TroopsDirect.  For more on Representative Hunter, click here.

  • Congressman Duncan Hunter & TroopsDirect Executive Director Aaron Negherbon – on The Sean Hannity Show 11/11/15
    February 12th, 2016

    By TroopsDirect

congressman hunterIn case you missed it…what follows is a link to an interview from November 11, 2015.  It’s such a good interview, we thought it was worth reposting. We are lucky to have such strong and vocal supporters in both Sean Hannity and Congressman Duncan Hunter.

TroopsDirect Executive Director Aaron Negherbon could be heard with Congressman Duncan Hunter (R-CA) on The Sean Hannity Show (Forward audio link to 18:25 to hear Aaron and the Congressman.) The men were discussing how our own troops are struggling to obtain the basic equipment they need from the Department of Defense and how TroopsDirect is stepping in while our own government fails them.

The Hannity.com staff wrote a nice recap of the conversation and highlighted the basic but necessary mission of TroopsDirect.  Thank you to The Sean Hannity Show for inviting us to be part of this important discussion, and thank you as always to Congressman Hunter for his service to our country and his unwavering support of TroopsDirect and those we serve.

  • TroopsDirect appears in American Profile
    January 23rd, 2016

    By TroopsDirect

American Profile recently featured a great interview with TroopsDirect founder Aaron Negherbon.  Even since this piece was written, TroopsDirect has surpassed 1 million pounds of supplies being shipped to troops!  (Read our recent blog post on that milestone here.)

In the piece, Aaron shares the story of his very first overseas shipment: “The idea for Troops Direct started after I sent a friend of mine, a Marine Corp company commander who was serving overseas, some care packages of general things he needed. That was when I learned our troops weren’t always issued some of the main staples I thought were readily accessible. Like most people I just assumed that items such as stretchers, gloves, communications equipment and gun lubricant were always available. But the more stories I heard about what the troops didn’t have the more I knew I had to do something to help.”

Aaron goes on to explain the standard requisition process for troops, and why the often don’t end up shipping out with the very supplies they most need.  “Given the size and complexity of the military the standard requisition process is laden with paperwork and bureaucracy. Before a deployment, many stateside supply officers will put in requests for what they need given the budget they have to work with. And then they either get everything or some of what they asked for.

It’s a different story when overseas. You can be in a remote environment and not know what, if anything, is available for a mission. Successfully shipping supplies often presents a completely different set of challenges. Stateside supplies can be received in a day, week or a month depending on the deployment. When troops are overseas it can often take many months if it happens at all. When circumstances are fluid, what may be needed next week isn’t necessarily what will be needed months down the road.”

Thanks to American Profile for highlighting our organization and our mission!

  • TroopsDirect reaches one million pounds shipped milestone!
    January 15th, 2016

    By TroopsDirect

PrintBig news around here! We recently shipped our one millionth pound of supplies to our U.S. troops! We are the nation’s only civilian-run organization that responds in real time to medical and tactical supply requests that come directly from forward-deployed, U.S. soldiers.

“If most Americans knew what our fighting soldiers didn’t have in the battlefield, they would be shocked,” says founder Aaron Negherbon, who has no military background. “TroopsDirect doesn’t question why or where our soldiers are fighting. But we do feel it’s our duty and obligation as Americans to make sure that anyone sent in to harm’s way has everything necessary to do their jobs and come home safely.”

Since its inception in 2010, the five most commonly requested items from forward-deployed troops, most commonly Special Forces units serving in the Middle East and Northern Africa, are:

    · Helmets
    · Stretchers
    · Plate carriers (body armor)
    · Ballistic eye protection
    · Gun lubricant

Having made roughly 600 dedicated shipments over the past five years, to some of the most remote places on earth, TroopsDirect has served as a lifeline to soldiers who are often unable to get the tools they need due to complicated supply chains, unexpected troop movement and budgetary constraints.

“Where it can take weeks or sometimes months for troops to have supply requests fulfilled, we are usually able to get them what they need in seven days or less,” says Negherbon, who gave up a lucrative real estate career to launch the organization. “We know the hurdles facing the military when it comes to supply fulfillment and serve as an adjunct to their efforts. We each have the same goal – successful missions and safe soldiers.”

In addition to the most commonly requested items, other commonly requested supplies include special chalk for marking IED’s, medical kits, tourniquets, rifle slings and communications equipment. The most unusual request?

“Not long ago we received a request for a large shipment of men’s hair dye,” says Negherbon. “The guys with blonde, red and light brown hair were standing out when trying to blend in with local populations. That was nothing more than a trip to the drugstore but opened my eyes to a world that’s hard to fathom for most Americans.”

  • Pray for our troops in Southern Afghanistan
    January 6th, 2016

New concerns over ramped up efforts to fight the Taliban; Jennifer Griffin provides insight on 'Special Report'

Things continue to be very active in Afghanistan, and yesterday saw some of America’s elite commandos trapped and fighting for their lives.  Sadly, the life of a U.S. Special Operator was lost in heavy firefight with the Taliban.  The team of special operations forces was pulled out of the area a short time ago.

According to FOX News, The Taliban in recent weeks have focused on retaking parts of Helmand, and the U.S. has countered with special operations forces working with Afghan troops (The Associated Press).

News like this only highlights the fact that we absolutely owe our men and women in uniform, who are willing to risk their lives each day, the full range of necessary supplies and equipment needed to perform basic tasks.  We’re not talking comforts of home, reading books or playing cards…we’re talking mission-necessary, lifesaving equipment that has been shorted or simply denied due to supply chain issues or whatever the case may be.  We don’t ask…we just deliver what is requested.

Help us help our deployed soldiers!  Let’s give them the best possible chance of coming home safely.

  • U.S. to send 100+ additional troops to Iraq: let’s support our troops!
    December 3rd, 2015

    By TroopsDirect

The Pentagon plans to send a special operations intelligence and strike force of between 100 and 150 troops to Iraq to conduct raids on Islamic State targets in Iraq and Syria, a senior Defense official told USA TODAY Tuesday.  The new troops will be above the U.S. forces already in Iraq.  The U.S.-led coalition expanded airstrikes in November to their highest level since the campaign began in August 2014.

It’s more important than ever that we support our deployed service members.  TroopsDirect is in constant contact with units, even before they ship out, so we can fill any gaps in their supplies and/or equipment before they deploy.  We get many emails and calls from units once they are overseas…and we work to fulfill those requests as quickly and efficiently as humanly possible.  We recognize that that the items our troops are requesting aren’t “fluff” things or comforts of home; they are life-saving, mission-necessary supplies.  Things like helmets, specialized gloves and eyewear, holsters for Special Forces Operators, and even black hair dye.  Hair dye???  Did you miss that story?  Click here to get the scoop!  This was an unusual shipment that was very necessary, given the part of the world where our troops were serving.

Watch this video to learn more about us, who we serve and why we do it.  God Bless our servicemen and women, and we thank them each and every day for their service.

  • Royals Outfielder Jonny Gomes: MVP for our service members!
    November 3rd, 2015

    By TroopsDirect

Heroes crop up in the unlikeliest of places, and in this case, on the baseball diamond.  And on baseball’s biggest stage:  the World Series.

Game 5 of the World Series saw an unlikely hero in Kansas City Royals infielder Christian Colon who, in his first at bat in the postseason, drove in the go-ahead run in the 12th inning to help the Royals #TakeTheCrown and win their first World Series in 30 years.

Interviewed by Erin Andrews of FOX Sports on the field after the game, the first question asked of Colon was how he stayed ready during the game.

Jonny Gomes, he was just taking me under his wing, letting me know what I needed to do in certain situations,” he said with tears in his eyes. “That’s why you bring a guy over (in a trade).”

Veteran outfielder Gomes was traded to the Royals in late August but wasn’t on the playoff roster. But as Colon and the rest of the Royals can attest to, that doesn’t mean he didn’t contribute. Gomes is known as one of the best teammates in baseball, a guy who will always put the team first. And that mentality doesn’t stop on the ball field.

In true Gomes fashion, he decided to auction off 4 players tickets, to both Games 3 and 4 in Citi Field, Queens, with all of the proceeds going to TroopsDirect. This resulted in $8,150 that will be spent on procurement and shipment of requested supplies directly to our forward-deployed soldiers.

“TroopsDirect and this nation’s service members are very lucky to have the support of Jonny and the entire Royals organization,” said TroopsDirect Executive Director Aaron Negherbon.  “Jonny has been a huge supporter of TroopsDirect. He embodies everything that is great about Major League Baseball and the patriotism that baseball evokes in us all.”

The need is real; we are contacted on a daily basis by deployed service members for mission-critical supplies that they are unable to procure due to supply chain issues or various other reasons. Regardless of the reason, we are here to help our soldiers at their time of need, and help them as fast as possible.  Please help us today!  SHARE this blog post  to help us spread the word and DONATE so we can help our soldiers.
